Naperville, Ill. / North

Macalester star runner Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./North) is hitting her stride at the right time. The sophomore bested a talented 141-runner field at Saturday's St. Kate's Invite in St. Paul, Minn., for her first overall victory, while leading the Scots to a top-three team finish. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Meyer Tuesday with her second MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week award of the 2014 season.

Meyer's winning time in the 4k race was 14:25.28, as she shaved more than 14 seconds off her time in the same event a year ago. She crossed the finish line nine seconds ahead of runner-up Erin Statz of St. Thomas, who defeated Meyer at the Roy Griak Invitational just two weeks prior. Her individual excellence helped her team finish third out of six teams at the event with 68 points, behind only regionally-ranked St. Thomas (41) and Saint Benedict (53). Currently the Scots are ranked No. 6 in the USTFCCA Central Region rankings, with UST at No. 2 and CSB at No. 4.

The Scots and their star sophomore will be back in action Saturday for their final tune-up prior to the 2014 MIAC Championships. Saint John's will compete in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational in Etrrick, Wis., Saturday. Macalester will then take a weekend off to prepare for the MIAC meet, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, at Como Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn.
