The Carleton women's cross country continues to assert itself as a regional and national power, and its latest performance at the star-studded UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational was another step in the right direction. Junior Ruth Steinke (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) ran a career-best time while leading the Knights and earning a top 10 overall finish while leading Carleton to a 13th-place finish in a field loaded with nationally-ranked squads. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Steinke Tuesday with her second MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week honor in the last three weeks.

Steinke crossed the finish line in just 21:27.9, which is a new career best time, and she was 10th overall in a 559-runner field, and finished fourth among Division III runners. Despite missing two of their top runners, Steinke helped the Knights to a 13th-place team finish in a field of 42 teams. The talented field included 12 teams that were nationally ranked in either Division II or III, with seven of those ranked in the top 10. Steinke was also honored with the MIAC's weekly award on Oct. 7.

Steinke and the Knights will take this weekend off to rest up for the biggest meet of the fall thus far - the 2014 MIAC Women's Cross Country Championships. The conference meet will be held at Como Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday, Nov. 1, with the women's race starting at 3:15 p.m. The Carleton men will enter the MIAC Championships ranked No. 1 in the Central Region and No. 12 in all of Division III by the USTFCCA.
