NORTHFIELD, Minn. – With four runners in the top nine and six among the first 12 finishers, the Carleton Knights rolled to their second consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's cross country championship and the program's seventh in the last ten years. Carleton scored 32 points in the race. Saint Benedict's Morgan Pierce earned individual honors, crossing the finish line in 22:30.0 to become the first Bennie since Leah Wurm in 2004 to claim the individual MIAC crown.
Carleton - ranked No. 11 in the nation - was led by sophomores Emma Greenlee and Amanda Mosborg, who crossed the finish line seconds apart. Greenlee placed second with a time of 22:40.1, while Mosborg finished third in 22:42.8. Senior Samantha Schnirring placed seventh with a time of 22:53.8 and was followed by junior teammate Marietta Geist in ninth with a time of 23:04.5.
St. Thomas and St. Olaf - co-hosts of the 2018 MIAC Cross Country Championships - finished in second and third, respectively. The Tommies placed seven runners among the top 25 for 79 team points, while the Oles had a pair in the top six for 106 points. Saint Benedict and Hamline tied in points with 148 apiece, with Gustavus not far behind in sixth place with 153 points. Macalester took seventh with a score of 173, followed by Bethel with 191, Concordia with 228, St. Catherine with 242 and Saint Mary's with 336. Augsburg tallied an incomplete score.
More than 200 student-athletes participated in this year's MIAC Women's Championships. The top 15 finishers earned All-Conference recognition, while finishers 16-25 were awarded Honorable Mention. Carleton led all teams with a six All-Conference finishers and landed an additional runner on the Honorable Mention squad. The All-MIAC and Honorable Mention runners were honored at a post-meet awards ceremony, and the Knights were also presented with their MIAC Championship plaque.
