Shorewood, Minn. / Minnetonka
The Carleton women's cross country team had an impressive showing in Saturday's star-studded field at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational in Colfax, Wis., led by standout sophomore Colette Celichowski(Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka). The Knights' sophomore finished 11th overall while leading Carleton to a fourth-place finish, and she was the top MIAC and regional finisher in the race. For her performance, Celichowski was named the MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week.
Celichowski crossed the finish line with a time of 22:14, as the first MIAC runner and the fifth Division III runner to finish. Her time was more than a minute and a half faster than a year ago, as she shaved 99 seconds off her time. Celichowski's performance helped Carleton finish fourth with 94 points - which was the top MIAC finish and second-best Division III finish - behind only the University of Minnesota, the host school and Winona State. This season, Celichowski has finished in the top 20 in all three of her races, and has been Carleton's top finisher in two of the three performances.
The Knights and Celichowski will take a week off, then will try to continue their great season when they return to the starting line on Oct. 6. Carleton will compete in the Dan Huston Invitational in Waverly, Iowa, that day, with the race set to start at 10:45 a.m. The Knights have just two more races on their fall schedule to tune up for the 2012 MIAC Cross Country Championships, which will be held at Como Park Golf Course on Oct. 27.
